Best Family-Friendly Vacations Over Chinese New Year - From Singapore, for this year or next year

Chinese New Year is one of the busiest travel periods of the year — and also one of the best times to make memories with your family. From cultural escapes and tropical beaches to snow adventures, these four family-friendly destinations are all different but all perfect for holidaying with kids in February.

1. Penang, Malaysia — Culture, Food & Easy Exploring

Travel time: 1.5 hours from Singapore
Trip Cost: ££

George Town is compact and walkable, with colourful street art, temples, museums and cafés that naturally keep children engaged.

Where to stay: Shangri La- Golden Sand Resorts

Activities: Street art hunt in George Town, Entopia Butterfly Farm, Batu Ferringhi beach time, Kek Lok Si Temple visit, hawker food tasting

Best for: Shortest travel time, lower cost. Travelling with young children and want to enjoy food and culture with flexibility.

2. Luang Prabang, Laos — Calm, Cultural & Refreshingly Slow

Travel time: 3–4 hours
Trip Cost: £££

This riverside town is peaceful, safe and surprisingly family-friendly, especially for those travelling with young or primary-school-aged children. February brings cooler, dry weather — perfect for waterfall visits, Mekong boat rides and temple walks.

Where to stay: Avani Hotel
Well located in the old town, within walking distance of markets, temples and riverside strolls.
Activities: Mekong River boat cruise, Kuang Si or Tad Sae waterfalls, temple hopping in the old town, night market browsing, horse riding, simple craft or cooking workshops.

Best for: Wanting a quieter destination, off the beaten track, value cultural and nature experiences. Looking for something different with a slower pace and less hectic holiday.

3. Boracay, Philippines — Beach Days & Resort Living

Travel time: 6–7 hours (including domestic connection)
Trip Cost: ££££

February is one of the best months to visit Boracay, with calm seas and clear skies. While the journey takes a little longer, once you arrive everything is close and easy — making it ideal for families who want to stay put and relax.

Where to stay (family friendly): Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa
A private beachfront resort with pools, activities and excellent facilities for children.

Activities: White Beach sand play, resort pools and kids’ club, island hopping boat rides, sunset beach walks, snorkelling in calm coves

4. Japan Ski Holiday — Snow Fun & Winter Magic

Travel time: 7–9 hours + transfers
Trip Cost: £££££

A ski holiday in Japan is the most premium option on this list — but also one of the most memorable. February is peak snow season, with reliable powder, excellent ski schools and well-organised resorts that are extremely family-friendly. Even non-skiers will enjoy snow play, hot springs and Japanese winter food.

Where to stay: Club Med Kiroro Grand, Hokkaido
All-inclusive, ski-in/ski-out resort with kids’ clubs and snow activities.

Activities: Kids’ ski lessons, snow play and tubing, gondola sightseeing rides, family-friendly onsens, winter comfort food experiences

Best for: Children old enough for ski lessons, once in a lifetime winter trip, happy with longer journeys and have a higher budget.
